Air Quality

The health and ecological effects associated with poor air quality are becoming more widely recognised. As a consequence, air quality assessments are now often required as part of the validation requirements for planning applications.

Vehicle Emissions

When a proposed development gives rise to an increase in traffic on the local road network, an air quality assessment is often required to determine the significance of the effect associated with an increase in vehicle emissions.

NJD Environmental Associates
can undertake screening assessments or detailed modelling using traffic data provided by the project team's transport consultant, to satisfy the requirement to consider air quality during the planning application stage.

We consult with the local authority to agree the appropriate methodology and to obtain local air quality data relevant to the assessment.

Stack Emissions

Emissions to air associated with products of combustion, i.e. from combined heat and power (CHP) plant, or from substances emitted through extraction systems used in purpose-built industrial facilities, can be modelled by NJD Environmental Associates to determine pollutant concentrations at nearby receptors. The modelling software takes into account the effects of surrounding buildings, local meteorological conditions and topography.

Dispersion models can be used at the design stage to determine the height of stacks, ensuring pollutants are effectively diluted and dispersed and are often required as evidence in support of planning applications or environmental permits when atmospheric emissions are associated with a development or industrial process.
