Dust

Whether it be construction dust or dust associated with mineral extraction sites, NJD Environmental Associates has the knowledge and experience to provide advise on control measures and undertake assessments in support of planning applications or to address pre-commencement planning conditions.

Construction Dust Assessment

During the planning application stage, consideration of emissions to air associated with the construction phase of a development is often required by the local planning authority where there are existing receptors, both human and ecological, around the proposed site.

NJD Environmental Associates can undertake these types of assessments in accordance with the Institute of Air Quality Management (IAQM) "Guidance on the Assessment of Dust from Demolition and Construction", to determine the impact associated with dust soiling and/or particulate matter. Appropriate site specific mitigation can then be advised, based on the dust risk.

Mineral Extraction and Waste Sites

Due to the nature of the operations undertaken on mineral extraction and waste sites, i.e. site preparation, extraction, processing and handling, dust is frequently required to be assessed as part of the planning process.

NJD Environmental Associates
have consultants with many years of experience of assessing such sites, currently undertaken in accordance with national Planning Practice Guidance and the IAQM "Guidance on the Assessment of Mineral Dust Impacts for Planning".

Dust assessments may be produced either as stand-alone technical reports or as a chapter to be contained within an Environmental Statement, whichever our clients require.

Dust Monitoring and Management

Where there is the potential for local receptors to be impacted by dust from construction or from processes undertaken at industrial/mineral extraction/waste sites, NJD Environmental Associates can prepare a tailor made, site specific Dust Management Plan (DMP).

A DMP includes information on the dusty activities; identifies sensitive receptors and provides details of the control measures in place.

The plan is also likely to include details of trigger levels associated with local weather conditions to reduce the risk of disamenity at local receptors, along with details of dust monitoring procedures on and off-site.
